The memorial commemorates the slaughter of Napoleon's army by allied forces in 1813.
The monument, with a figure of Nike, the winged goddess of victory, is the work of Pietr Nobil, and celebrates the Russian hero General Ostermann Tolstoy.
An Empire guardhouse in the shape of an Antique temple and a mass graves for victims of the battle are also to be found here.
