Region of Iron Mountains

Basic information

The region of the Iron Mountains lays in the Pardubice District, at the borderline of two districts Pardubice and Chrudim. Includes five alliances of municipalities and it is a countryside area which partly lies in the Protected Landscape Area of the Iron Mountains within a big potential for the development of agro-tourism.

The landscape varies from ponds, picturesque springs and streams, across rolling foothills of the Železné hory (“Iron Mountains”) abounding in mixed forests, up to the mountain tops of the Železné hory with their dominant, the impressive ruins of the Lichnice castle. Thanks to the Protected Landscape Area of Železné hory and National Geopark Železné hory, the countryside offers a variety of places of natural beauty and geological interests. The region also boasts with the largest recreational area of the Pardubice Region �" the Seč dam.

The diverse countryside of the foothills and mountains of the Iron Mountains is an ideal location for the increasing number of various educational paths for nature-lovers and hikers. Visitors and holidaymakers can take a stroll through the nature, a bicycle ride, or even �" thanks to the existence of numerous ranches and horse stands a horse ride.
Traces of Celtic settlement in the area gave impulse to conception of the association BOII, which established a unique Celtic trail and a Celtic Museum. Part of the Archeopark will become also a Celtic village.

Development of agro-tourism within the region goes hand in hand with environmental protection, eco-education, revitalization of the village centres and return to traditional life-style and its values.

Local Action Group of the Region of the Iron Mountains was founded in 2005 with a legal status of a civic society. You will find the centre of administration in the information point in Heřmanův Městec.

Projects are implemented by a special method LEADER, which is based on cooperation of all parts of the region (municipalities, agro business, tourist industry, services, interest associations, society clubs, schools...) by a method of community planning, which is a project making based on cooperation of all entities as well as the inhabitants (children, youth, active people and seniors).
 
In the period from 2016 to 2023, the region implements its Strategy for community-led local development of the LAG Železnohorský region, in the implementation of which it has certain financial means destined for the development of the region. In the given LAG period, applicants will be able to realize their projects trough the LAG within the framework of the Program Frameworks of the Integrated Regional Operational Program, Rural Development Program, OP Employment and OP Environment.
